The simple answer is no. Eyelid surgery is becoming an increasingly common and popular cosmetic procedure in the UK. The main reason people have eyelid surgery carried out is to improve hooded or drooping eyelid or eyebags and the procedure involves removing excess skin or fat from the eyelid. What Does Eyelid Surgery Cost in the UK?
One of the most important things to remember is that eyelid surgery is a cosmetic procedure, which means the cost of the surgery will vary based on the surgeon, the facility you have it carried out at and if your medical insurance covers the cost of the work. What Happens During Surgery?
Every surgeon's process is different and so are the individual patients as well, so please be aware below is only a guide of what to expect. Eyelid surgery will typically be carried out under local or general anaesthetic. As with any type of surgery, you will need to let the surgeon and doctor know if you are taking any medications, especially those that reduce clotting, such as aspirin or warfarin.
When the surgery is carried out on the upper eyelid, a small cut will be made along the natural fold of the eyelid skin, any excess skin, fat or muscle will be remove, as the cut will be closed, there might be a small scare left, but this is usually covered by the fold of the eye. Lower eyelid surgery will involve the cut being made on the lower eyelashes or inside the lower eyelid, then the fat or skin will be repositioned or removed, and any muscles that need additional support will be given it, the cut is then closed.
After surgery, you will usually have sticky strips, which are known as sutures on the eyes, which are designed to support the eyelid during the healing process. Most people are advised to keep their sutures on for around 1 week. Surgery typically takes around 1-2 hours and most patients are released the same day.
How Long Is The Recovery?
Everybody heals differently, however it is advised for people to take a week off work following the process, but please be aware after the week is up, it will still be visible that you’ve had surgery carried out on the eyes. It’s advised that you also don’t drive during the healing process and ideally you should wait until the bruising, redness and scarring has healed. You will be given guidance on what to do and what not to do during the recovery process from your doctor and you might also be prescribed painkillers to help you better manage any pain you might be suffering from.
